Experiences at the Antico Convento Santa Chiara

To enrich
your journey

Our experiences

More than just a stay

At Convento Santa Chiara, we believe a journey truly becomes unforgettable when it goes beyond the hotel room. That's why we offer experiences designed for those who want to discover Tuscany in depth: its wines, its cuisine, its landscape.

Having lived for many years in France, with a past as winegrowers, we brought with us a passion for wine and good food. Here, we have married it with the great Tuscan food-and-wine tradition. The result is a programme of experiences born from a genuine passion, not from a tourist catalogue.

Experiences are organised directly at the hotel, during your stay. There is no need to book in advance: we'll talk about it together when you arrive.

Wine tasting in Tuscany at Convento Santa Chiara
Wine tasting courses

Wine, a language worth learning

Tasting a wine is much more than drinking it. It's reading its colour, listening to its aromas, feeling its structure on the palate. It's understanding where it comes from, who made it, what land it tells the story of.

We offer three tasting courses, each with its own identity. They take place in the convent's cloister or garden, accompanied by local produce and pleasant conversation — no formality, no exams.

The three courses

Choose your journey through wine

Course 1 · For everyone

Introduction to wine tasting

The ideal starting point for those who truly want to understand what's in the glass. You will learn to observe colour, recognise aromas, and assess structure and persistence — simple tools that will change your relationship with wine forever.

  • How to look at, smell and taste a wine
  • Letting the wine speak: the qualities and flaws to look for
  • Tasting of 5 wines
  • Pairings with Tuscan cheeses and cured meats
Course 2 · A journey through France

The great French wine regions

Bordeaux, Burgundy, Alsace, Champagne, Rhône: an overview of the regions that have defined wine culture around the world. An unusual experience to enjoy in the heart of Tuscany, told by someone who has travelled those lands both for work and for pleasure.

  • Overview of the main French wine regions
  • The AOC system and the classification of wines (grands crus, premiers crus)
  • Tasting of 5 selected French wines
  • Stories, anecdotes and curiosities told by the owners
Course 3 · Tuscan roots

The wines of the region and beyond

Just a few kilometres from the Antico Convento Santa Chiara are born some of the most celebrated wines in the world: Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Brunello di Montalcino, Orcia DOC, but also lesser-known appellations that deserve to be. A journey to discover them in the very setting where they were born, with the same soil underfoot.

  • Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG
  • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
  • Orcia DOC and other local wines
  • Tasting with commentary on local labels

Tuscany is also learned at the table

Tuscan cuisine is made of age-old gestures, simple ingredients and deep flavours. Unsalted bread, extra virgin olive oil, aromatic herbs, handmade pasta: behind every dish lies a story worth learning to tell.

Our cooking courses take place in a convivial, informal atmosphere. It's not a lesson, but an afternoon in the kitchen together — where you learn, chat, and in the end eat what you've prepared.

Vineyard and cellar visit
Vineyards & Cellars

Immersed among vine rows and cellars

Convento Santa Chiara is just a few minutes' drive from the vineyards of the Val d'Orcia, Montepulciano and the Sienese Chianti. Walking among the rows, understanding how the soil changes, listening to a producer talk about their harvest.

We organise visits to selected cellars in the area — small artisan estates or historic wineries — with a final tasting and the chance to buy directly from the source.

"We come from France, the other country of wine and gastronomy. We arrived in Tuscany and realised the two cultures had a great deal to say to each other. Our experiences are born from that meeting."
— Mélodie and Gianni, owners of the Antico Convento Santa Chiara
