Five centuries of history in seven charming rooms. Discover the Antico Convento Santa Chiara, in the heart of Sarteano between Tuscany and Umbria.
Founded in 1498 with the support of noble families from Montepulciano and Sarteano, the convent housed for over four centuries the Poor Clare nuns, cloistered monks devoted to silence and contemplation.
After the suppression of monastic orders, the building became a public school until the 1970s. In the 1990s it was carefully restored, preserving the original monastic layout: the Renaissance cloister, stone vaults, terracotta floors.
